Mickey and Minnie Cookies

Mickey and Minnie Cookies

Are you a Disney addict? We are! We have season passes to all of the Disney parks in Orlando. We did the during the week pass since we are homeschoolers and it isn’t crowded. We also love to kick back and watch Disney movies and of course make Disney snacks like these Mickey and Minnie Cookies!

They may look complicated but follow my directions below and you’ll see how fun and easy they are.

Cookie Ingredients:

1 1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 cup softened unsalted sweet cream butter

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon cream of tarter

3 cups flour

Cookie Cutters:

Round
Mickey Mouse Head

Royal Icing Ingredients:

3 egg whites

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 teaspoon cream of tarter

3 cups powder sugar

Cookie Directions:

-cream butter, sugar, vanilla and egg in a mixing bowl until well combined.

-in a small bowl add the dry ingredients and mix until combined.

-gradually pour in dry ingredients into the wet ingredients bowl and mix until well combined.

-once all ingredients are mixed and a dough ball has formed. (if still sticky add in a half cup of flour and mix until a firm ball of dough forms.) place dough into a ziplock bag or in a bowl with foil to place on top.

place in fridge for 2 hours so that the dough can rise. it won’t double in size like bread dough.

Icing Directions:

Separate the egg yolk from the whites. put the egg whites into a mixing bowl and trash the rest of the egg. Add the sugar, cream of tarter and vanilla extra to the egg whites. Beat on medium speed for 6 minutes.

If the icing has a yellow color and looks like soup add in more powder sugar. about 1 cup. Once the icing is done, pour it into a container that has a lid to it.

-divide the icing into 2 bowls. Put more of the white icing into the bowl for white and less into the other for the black color.

-in the bowl for the black icing add some black gel coloring to make the icing black. add a little more gel coloring to get the color you want.

-scoop black icing into a piping bag with #2 tip and the set aside in the fridge.

-scoop some white icing into a piping bag with a #2 tip.

-for the white icing. add in 1-3 tablespoons of water to thin the icing out. you want it to be thick and runny, not soup like. If it is soup like add in 1/4 cup of powder sugar to thicken it. pour into a squeeze bottle

cookie decorating directions:

Outline the mickey head and circle with the white icing in the piping bag, then fill it in with the icing in the bottle.

-let cookies dry for 3 hours before decorating.

MIckey and Minnie cookies

-Draw out little circles on a piece of printer paper and the place under wax paper on a cookie sheet. Using the icing in the bottle, fill in the circles and then set aside and let dry for 5 hours. Once dry, get your color gels and a small paint brush.

Using the flesh colored gel, dip the paintbrush into the gel and brush it onto the white circles. Repeat same process with remaining colors. Let it dry for 2 hours before you peel them off.

Frozen Inspired Chocolate Wands Recipe

Frozen Inspired Chocolate Wands Recipe

I have girls. Maybe I should say I have Frozen obsessed girls which is why we made Frozen Inspired Chocolate Wands. They were my inspiration for these. I was trying out some new ideas to take to a party and thought that all of the little girls would love these.  Especially since Frozen 2 is coming out soon. You will see how easy these are to make. My girls even helped.

Frozen Inspired Chocolate Wands

Ingredients

12 oz. Wilton white candy melts

blue or silver sprinkles

1 pack of pretzel sticks (sticks, not rods)

small sandwich baggie

kitchen scissors

12 foil or parchment lined baking sheets

Related –> DISNEY-INSPIRED FROZEN COCKTAIL

DIRECTIONS

#1. Pour the Wilton candy melts into a microwavable safe dish and heat in 30 second increments, stirring every 30 seconds until melted. Allow the chocolate to cool a few minutes.

#2. Using a large spoon, scoop the white chocolate into the sandwich baggie, squeeze the air out of the bag, seal it shut and then make a small snip in one corner using the kitchen scissors.

#3. Practice run (if you’d like) – Place one pretzel stick on the foil/parchment lined baking sheet.

About midway up the pretzel you will want to make a small star shape. I did the star shape that we were taught in elementary school (see photo). Thus, I had to practice few times to get it right. Your stars don’t have to be perfect. The kids will LOVE them regardless.

#4. After practicing, place a few pretzels spaced out on the baking sheet and then make your stars – fill in the stars with more chocolate by simply going bag and forth gently squeezing the bag (see photo).

Next, sprinkle some of the candy sprinkles onto the chocolate before it sets.

#5. Repeat these steps until you are out of chocolate or have a desired number of stars wands.

*I’m willing to bet this would also work well with large pretzel rods.

10 Treats Worth the Splurge at Magic Kingdom

10 Treats Worth the Splurge at Magic Kingdom10 Treats Worth the Splurge at Magic Kingdom

Disney can be pretty expensive and one of the major things that eats into your budget is the food. There are a lot of delicious foods waiting to be devoured around the Magic Kingdom but the price tag can give you a bit of sticker shock and calorie shock as well! There are some things that are well worth it on both counts and I have gathered up my favorite 10 Treats That are Worth the Splurge at Magic Kingdom! I am giving you a good mix up of sweet treats and salty dishes to hit whatever craving you might have during your visit.

Check out these 10 Treats Worth the Splurge at Magic Kingdom.

LeFou’s Brew– I just recently discovered this amazing drink at Gaston’s Tavern in Fantasyland, it was so good that we had to go back for a second a couple hours after we had the first one. The flavors didn’t sound all that appealing but it was iced and it was a really hot day so I gave it a go. Frozen apple juice with marshmallow flavoring topped with a passion fruit-mango foam…weird right? Wrong! It is the most delicious concoction and we loved it so much we are trying to make a copycat version for home!

Frozen apple juice with marshmallow flavoring topped with a passion fruit-mango foam

Mickey Mouse Ice Cream Bar– The famous mouse head shaped ice cream on a stick dipped in chocolate is almost a requirement when visiting the park. It’s simple, it’s tasty, and it’s perfect on a hot day.

mickeyicecream

Churros– You can find these deep fried cinnamon sugar coated treats at a couple different snack carts as well as mini churros (which I had) at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe. They come with chocolate sauce but I prefer them naked.

churros

Cinnamon Roll– Grab one of these huge and delicious cinnamon rolls while enjoying your Lefou’s Brew at Gaston’s Tavern. They come out warm, soft, and drizzled with icing. The perfect treat to keep your energy up!

Related –> MALEFICENT CUPCAKES FOR YOUR NEXT DISNEY PARTY

Mickey Rice Krispie Treats– While they serve these year round and they are gooey and tasty you can find them decorated for various seasons like these in the fall. Something about the seasonal decoration just makes them taste even better.

crispytreats

Cake Pops– These are the perfect size when you want just a small sweet treat to tide you over or cap off a  meal. I spotted them at the Main Street Confectionary, Main Street Bakery, Goofy’s Candy Company, and Prairie Outpost and Supply.

cakepops

Dole Whip– There is a reason this is one of the top treats time and time again on every Disney food list. If you are anywhere near Aloha Isle in Adventureland you want to grab one of these soft serve pineapple cups, you can also get it as a float.

img_1873

Starbucks– Okay yes, you can have Starbucks anywhere, but there is something about the familiarity of an iced coffee  with the green circle on it that belongs.  In the Main Street Bakery you will find a full-service Starbucks with all your favorite drinks, including seasonal flavors.

starbucks

Mickey Candy Apple– A bit high for a candy apple ,but I think it’s worth it for the adorable way they are decorated and they are pretty darn tasty. You will find them in most most of the popular characters as well as with seasonal colors and themes at several different locations throughout the park.

apple

Turkey Leg– I don’t know any other place or time, other than possibly Thanksgiving where I would attempt to devour a hunk of meat this size but the smoked turkey legs in Frontierland are a must! They are big enough to share or keep it to yourself!
